ā° 8:15PM EST - Cowboys vs. Giants
Preview
Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season is here, featuring a major showdown in the NFC East as the Dallas Cowboys head to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. Remarkably, both teams are at 1-2 and eager to remain in the playoff hunt. The Cowboys are looking to recover from consecutive home losses, where their defence was overwhelmed by the Saints and Ravens. Meanwhile, the Giants faced significant challenges in their first two games but managed to rebound with a road win against the Browns last Sunday.
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas is facing significant challenges in stopping the run, which is preventing them from utilizing their strength of rushing the passer. The Ravens rushed 45 times for a total of 274 yards last week and the Cowboys couldnāt seem to get a hold of the game. Should the Cowboys win this game? Absolutely, especially considering their dominance over Daniel Jones and Dak Prescottās success against the Giants. The Cowboys beat the Giants by a combined point difference of 89-17 last season. However, they need to improve their run defence and start strong offensively to secure the victory.
Dallas has shown life in their offence with Dak throwing 379 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Dak has the most passing yards on the season with 851 and 218 of those come from the Cowboy's other major off-season signing CeeDee Lamb. Dallas is the heavy favourite for this matchup and has all the tools to win, but Cowboys fans are prone to disappointment.
New York Giants
Daniel Jones compensates for his average passing skills with his ability to make plays on the ground, and against an aggressive Dallas Cowboys defence, he may find himself scrambling. Under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, the Cowboys have been aggressive with their blitzing, achieving the highest pressure rate per dropback as Week 4 approaches. This will likely leave Jones feeling the heat in the pocket, prompting him to tuck the ball and run as Dallas intensifies the pressure. Jones struggles as a passer when under duress, which means the offensive line needs to have a big game if the Giants want to upset Dallas.
New Yorkās offence has faced plenty of criticism in recent seasons, but Malik Nabersā knack for creating separation and making contested catches has opened up new possibilities for Brian Daboll. Regardless of opinions about Dabollās tenure in New York, he has demonstrated his skill as an effective offensive playcaller. This will be crucial in a matchup like this, as Daboll is likely to challenge the Dallas defensive line with a strong dose of Devin Singletary. If the Cowboys struggle to contain the run, the Giants will rely heavily on their ground game. However, if Dallas crowds the box, Daboll knows he can count on Jones and the passing attack.
Prediction
Expect Dallas to come out hard with a strong answer to Singletary and the run game. Dallas is able to put up points but will likely make this a one-sided game just short of the over.
š Spread: Cowboys -5.5
š Total: Under 45.0
