The Steelers have taken over the top spot in the AFC North after their very impressive victory against the Baltimore Ravens. Although Pittsburgh didn't score a single touchdown, their defence was outstanding. The Ravens, known for having one of the top offences in the NFL, were held to just 329 yards and 16 first downs by the Steelers. Pittsburgh also kept Derrick Henry to just 65 yards and forced three turnovers. Regardless of the type of offence they face, if the Steelers can continue to perform defensively at this level, they are a serious contender.
As for the Browns last week, after a close first half, New Orleans dominated in the second half, winning 35-14 and racking up 473 yards against a defence that has been prone to giving up big plays. The Browns’ offence had a solid showing, gaining 442 yards, but their defence was porous, allowing an alarming 8.2 yards per play. This isn’t a one-off, as Cleveland regularly gives up explosive plays, ranking 27th or worse in opponent points per play and yards per pass and rush. With only one win in their last eight games and a -9.4 point-differential per game during that stretch, the Browns are in a downward spiral.
Given the circumstances, the Steelers deserve their position as road favourites on Thursday Night Football. Despite the short week, the road trip, and the emotional high from their recent win, Pittsburgh has been one of the most consistent teams in the league, especially after their bye in Week 9.
Prediction
Although the odds makers are looking for a tight battle, expect the Steelers to easily cover the spread and continue their consistent success.
