NFL MNF Week 7 Prediction, Preview, Picks

In tonight's edition of MNF, we have two great games to cover. The Baltimore Ravens (4-2) are set to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2). Kickoff at the Raymond James Stadium will begin at 8:15 p.m. ET. Then, the LA Chargers (3-2) take on the Arizona Cardinals (2-4) at 9:00 p.m. ET. If the Buccaneers stack the box to slow him down, Lamar Jackson will exploit that, whether through passing or running.

On the defensive side, the Ravens have their own challenges, sitting 23rd in EPA allowed per play (0.069). Their passing defence has been particularly problematic, ranking 27th in Dropback EPA per play allowed (0.190). Baker Mayfield and his team are seventh in Dropback EPA per play (0.155), and he’s been having an outstanding year, leading the league with 15 touchdown passes and boasting a passer rating of 109.4. Expect him to put up impressive numbers in this matchup.

Ultimately, there’s a reason Baltimore has hit the Over in five of six games this season, while Tampa Bay has done so in four of six. Both teams have explosive offences but shaky defences, creating a strong potential for a high-scoring game.

Expect Baltimore to get the best of the Buc's defence in this high-scoring match that reaches the over.

Missing Joey Bosa against a mobile quarterback like Kyler Murray is a setback, but the Chargers should still secure a win in this matchup. The Chargers rank third in the league in EPA per play allowed (-0.160) this season, boasting the top rushing defence and a top-five passing defence. While the Cardinals have plenty of offensive talent, they're averaging just 22.2 points per game this year and managed only 69 points in their first two games.

Additionally, the Cardinals are 23rd in Rush EPA per play allowed (-0.027), which is concerning against a Chargers team that loves to run the ball. While Los Angeles may lack star running backs, they will continue to emphasize the ground game to set up Justin Herbert for passing opportunities. I expect Herbert to exploit the Cardinals’ weak rushing defence with some significant throws.

Overall, the Chargers are a stronger defensive team than the Cardinals, and I question whether Arizona’s offence is better than the Chargers. Even though this is a road game for Jim Harbaugh’s squad, I’d be surprised if the Chargers don’t come out on top. Throughout his coaching career, Harbaugh's teams have a 17-3 record as road favourites of 7 points or fewer, with this year's team already 2-0 in that scenario. He also holds a 16-9 record in games with spreads between +3 and -3. Harbaugh knows how to win and consistently gets the best from his teams in these situations.
